CV Template · Investment Banker
An investment banker CV has to show more than enthusiasm for markets; it needs to prove you can support live deals, build reliable models and communicate with demanding clients. The strongest CVs make transaction exposure, valuation work and sector knowledge easy to scan.
Hiring managers in investment banking look for evidence that you can contribute on pitches, mandates and execution under tight deadlines. Your CV should show hands-on experience with DCF, comparable company analysis, precedent transactions, LBO modelling, three-statement models and pitchbook preparation in PowerPoint. Include sector coverage such as TMT, healthcare, FIG, energy or industrials, along with deal stages you supported, from CIM drafting and management presentations to buyer lists, data room review and due diligence. If relevant, add FINRA Series 79, Series 63, CFA progress or advanced Excel training.
Use internships, finance society work, stock pitches, valuation projects and case competitions to show deal-relevant ability. Include concrete outputs such as a DCF model, trading comps set, M&A pitch deck or investment memo, and specify the sector and assumptions you used.
Only include named transactions if they are public and you are permitted to discuss them. For confidential deals, describe them generically, such as '$500m sell-side process for a healthcare services company,' and focus on your contribution to valuation, diligence or materials.
Prioritise Excel modelling, valuation methods, accounting fluency and presentation work in PowerPoint. Recruiters often scan for DCF, comps, precedent transactions, LBO, accretion/dilution, Capital IQ, Bloomberg and FactSet because these map directly to analyst and associate workflows.
